Teaching Practicum I

October 7Unit 4: Body parts (Vocabulary)

In the warm up activity students were asked to sit down on the floor and then they need to play with a bottle to select one student to pass to the front to order the body of an image pasted on the board.  The warm up activity worked as an encounter, because teacher were presenting the part of the body, studets just had to guess which word belongs to each part. Since my point of view, it was a nice activity for students to become familiar with the vocabulary, they quere predicting and guessing.

In the presentation stage, teachers introduced the vocabulary by presenting flashcards and name tag per each image of the body parts. Also, teachers were providing the correct pronunciation per each part of the body. It worked a lot, students also were enthusiastic, because most of the parts that they pasted on the body were correct, and they did not have a clear knowledge about them.

In the practice stage students were asked to touch the part of the body that teachers were saying. Then, in the second practice students were in two groups and they had to look for the part of the body that teachers provided them, and then they had to go and pasted it on the board. This was a nice activity to internalize the new vocabulary, by playing this game they were puting into practice the new words, and they were matching the new vocabulary with something real, with their own body. If I have the chance in the future to work with children, I would like to apply this activity, because it is fun for the students, and they learn a lot by practicing.

Then, in the production stage students were playing "Simon Says", and they had to touch the part of the body that they were listening, but "Simon" was touching a different part of the body than the one that he was saying to make the activity  challenging for them, because that is the purpose. In this stage we could realize that students had internalized the new vocabulary, even if "Simon" was touching another part of the body, students were not confussed. The class was funny and the materials used was good. Students learned and enjoyed all the activities. I would apply those activities, because they accomplish the learning and teaching purpose.

October 12Unit 4: Body Parts (Grammar)Teachers: Hazel Rivas and Abigail Amaya.

For the warm up stage students were asked to draw the body part that they were listening. Students were participating, and they remember the vocabulary, sometimes they get confussed but that was the purpose of the activity, to make a review about the previous class, activing their previous knowledge, because they were going to use it in the class.

In the practice stage students were asked to be sitted on the floor, teacher provided them little squares of paper, and students need to form short sentences.
